Mexican bean beetle larva - Epilachna varivestis

Mexican bean beetle larva - Epilachna varivestis
Framingham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 29, 2008
I noticed there was no shot of a larva in the image gallery for this annoying pest :-).

Jennifer, can you tell if this
is the same thing?

Same genus, different species?
The larvae look similar, but mine was photographed on bean, next to adult Epilachna varivestis. The two species seem host-specific, so if yours was munching on gourds, that indicates Epilachna borealis.

Ok, fixed.
Did you look at any of the other unknowns in the Coccinellidae here? We would move them onto their species pages if you have identified any of them, but wouldn't find them unless you advised us. Thank you.

Pay no attention to the woman behind the curtain
I am no expert! Just found dozens of larvae + adults + decimated green beans + a little Googling :-).

We're always hoping!
;-)
