Assassin Bug - Pselliopus sp? - Pselliopus marmorosus

Assassin Bug - Pselliopus sp? - Pselliopus marmorosus
Patagonia, Pima County, Arizona, USA

Size: ~5 cm

Got it!
This is the recently described Pselliopus marmorosus Brailovsky & Barrera. Dark coloration (particularly of the pronotum) and the rounded humeral angles match. This species is known to occur in Arizona as well as northern Mexico.

Moved from Pselliopus.

Hmm...
This could be a mexican species previously unknown in the US. This could also be a darker form of Pselliopus zebra; it certainly doesn't fit the other 5 species known to occur north of Mexico. As Eric said, this genus is desperately in need of a revision and I'll let the admins decide what to do with this and the other dark Pselliopus (where I will be pasting this comment as well).

Not an expert but
Please see Assassin Bug (Pselliopus)

(may not be this exact species but I am pretty of the Genus)

Ah, makes sense!
Ron: Thanks so much for the ID help. I am little embarrased that I missed this, as I had just keyed out a similar Spotted Assassin bug (Rhynocoris ventralis) earlier this month. However I am in the process of reviewing old un-identified insect photos, and got fooled by a previous (wrong) ID guess. Best wishes, Scott
