Insect near the creek

Insect near the creek
Cascadia Oregon, Linn County, Oregon, USA
July 27, 2008
Size: 1.5" to 2" long
I was hiking up Dobbin Creek in Cascadia Oregon when I spotted this long bug on a section of bedrock. I'm wondering if it's the adult stage of a creek dwelling pupa. It's very big for this area, and it was neat to see it. It was around 3 in the afternoon. I touched it and it took a step.

Fishfly.
Your suspicions are confirmed. As larvae, this insect does live in flowing water. Family is Corydalidae, but I'm not sure of the genus, let alone species. Adults often fly to lights at night.
