Conocephalinae 01a - Orchelimum gladiator - Male
Near Curlew Lake, ~10 Miles Northeast of Republic, Ferry County, Washington, USA
July 6, 2008
Found in the late evening in the tall grass, it appears to be an immature specimen judging by the size of the wing-pads.

Orchelimum gladiator?
The two choices in northern WA are Conocephalus fasciatus and Orchelimum gladiator. Hard to tell in an immature, but I don't think this one's slender enough to be Conocephalus. And not very scientific, but those zebra stripes on the hind leg are on every picture I can find of the gladiator and none of the slender meadow katydid.

Agreed
Looking through the images here and on singingisects plus the female I found all point to this being Orchelimum gladiator.

Nymph.
I don't understand how you can tell the species in the nymph stage....I'm not even sure this is Orchelimum, though that does appear to be correct.
