A Cimbicid Sawfly (Cimbicidae
A Cimbicid Sawfly (Cimbicidae). The clubbed antennae are typical of the family.

Clubbed antenna
Sorry, I really wasn't looking at the clubbed antenna but those ferocious looking mandibles! What is that plate between the mandibles used for?

Trichiosoma triangulum.
Nice specimen of this insect.

Thanks Eric
It was also very cooperative, ie, it allowed me to "handle" it (note that photo of it on my fingers). I don't mind admitting that it took some guts to coax it onto my fingers, not knowing if it might like to take a bite out of me. Just call me the "Insect Whisperer," I guess. ;>)

neat lookin guy
The "plate" is it's labrum, basically it's "upper lip."
