In looking through the guide I think that this is a Cross Spider. He caught dinner while I was taking photos. His web is in a rose bush.

I think your ID is correct -
I've photographed several of these spiders recently, and I think that abdominal pattern is pretty distinctive. Moving to guide page for now, assuming no objections...
