Micro Moth - Ectoedemia

Micro Moth - Ectoedemia
Chanhassen, Carver County, Minnesota, USA
July 25, 2008
Size: 2.5 mm long
Nepticulidae? Perhaps Stigmella sp. The small size, stubby wings and conspicuous eye-caps on the antennae suggest Nepticulidae. Any help?

Nepticulidae
Yes, this definitely is a nepticulid. Beyond that, however, sight ID is rendered problematic by the fact that the forewing color pattern (dark with a single white fascia) of this moth is seen in multiple species in both of our largest two genera of nepticulids, Stigmella and Ectoedemia.

Thanks, Terry.
