Alphina glauca -
Calyptoproctus marmoratus
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
August 1, 2008
Size: about 1 inch
Is this a Cixius? It has clear wings as can be seen from the photograph. Any help with the ID would be appreciated.

Thank you very much
Thank you John and Jane. This was the first one I've ever seen and I had no idea what it was. It came to my porch light. Is this the first one for Georgia?

BugGuide does not yet have an image
from Georgia, but the confusing thing for us is that Dr Hamilton reported that this insect, if it is Alphina, is not usually found east of Mississippi. It will be interesting to see what he says when he gets an opportunity to see your images.

Alphina glauca
Another new state record (along with NC). Maybe it's spreading eastward? Previous records are mostly from AZ but it has been reported from TX and MS.

Thank you
Thank you again. It was a very interesting insect. That was the only time it was observed by me.
