Ichneumon cocoon?
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 31, 2008
Size: ~6mm
This seems to be another one of those Ichneumonid/Braconid cocoons. It was simply attached to the top of a leaf.

Yes--
I haven't come across anything to suggest that cocoons like this are made by anything other than campoplegine ichneumonids.
I don't suppose you collected it?

No, sorry
we didn't think to do so. We haven't been good about seeing through with collected items. We seem to forget them after a while and then find them dead when we suddenly remember. Will have to organize ourselves better.
