I photographed and then collected this small beetle from a flower. I had trouble ID'ing it, but one of my instructors thought it might be a phalacrid?

Probably this is Orphilus subnitidus, since it's the only species in this genus listed as occurring in CA according to the SBMNH beetle site and also American Beetles.
