Not Melanoplus.
I believe this is Camnula pellucida, the "clearwing grasshopper," which is in the band-winged subfamily. It can be incredibly abundant some years, though, a trait shared with Melanoplus up there!

 
Yes, Camnula pellucida
This species can look remarkably like a melanopline, but that tough sculptured pronotum gives it away. They're usually common in shorter dry grass and weedy areas.
