My hoppers - Romalea microptera - Female
Pinson, Blount County, Alabama, USA
August 3, 2008
Size: approximately 2" - 3" +
I have loads of these and love to watch them but not sure of their name. They get rather large, I've seen them up to 3"+. When you pick them up they make a hissing type noise.

black grasshopper
This is new to my area of Summerville SC. Ate alot of large amarilla leaves in on day...black flag for spiders and scorpions is pretty much all ya nee for this pest.

Eastern lubber grasshopper.
This is a black (melanistic) phase of the eastern lubber grasshopper, Romalea microptera. Most specimens are orange, with a few black markings:-) Nice find!
