Mite - Megisthanus floridanus

Mite - Megisthanus floridanus
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
May 13, 2005
Size: 2 mm
On a large passalid beetle buried in rotten wood. There were many many of these things, some of which dropped off, some are pickled in my lab. I am just getting familiar with the new scope attachment for our camera, and I thought I would practice on these. The mouthparts do not look tick-like. These mites are very large!
