Twobanded Antmimic - Castianeira cingulata

Twobanded Antmimic - Castianeira cingulata
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
August 3, 2008
Size: about 15 mm
Saw one of these spiders and thought it was an ant of some kind. It only had three legs on one side. I was able to get a photo of this specimen the following night. Very remarkable mimic. Notice the thin faint white line at base of thorax where legs join. This feature is visible on another image in Guide. I originally thought it was an image defect until I saw it on other images.

nice find
It certainly looks right to me, but I'm not an expert.

Thanks Lynette, I appreciate
Thanks Lynette, I appreciate the compliment. It is a pretty spider, not all fuzzy and spiny and (shudder...) mean looking. I really don't have a soft spot in my heart for them, but I do love to take photographs of them. I get over the revulsion (if that is the correct word), by concentrating on the shot.

yep, I understand
I used to be that way. After 4 years of taking pics, I don't feel that way at all anymore. Keep shooting. :)
