Parasitic Yellowjacket - Dolichovespula adulterina - male

Parasitic Yellowjacket - Dolichovespula adulterina - Male
Elysburg, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA
August 7, 2008
I believe this may be a Vespula consobrina male, can anyone confirm?

Moved
Moved from Blackjacket. Actually D. adulterina. Note long malar space. Additional supporting characters: white spots on metanotum (absent in V. consobrina, often present in D. adulterina), narrow interruptions of white bands on terga 1-3 (found often in adulterina but never in consobrina).

Thanks
for the correct ID Dr. Buck:)

Looks like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea they were in PA! was this in western PA?

Elysburg, about 60 miles north of Harrisburg.

thank you for this info, i live very near Harrisburg, and have always thought that black jackets did not occur there.
