Graphocephala picta
G. coccinea does not occur that far north. There are only two species of this genus in Ottawa, and the other (G. teliformis) is distinctly larger, 7-9 mm.

Hmmm
Still not convinced it is Graphocephala picta. The specimen I have closely resembles Graphocephala coccinea, mainly in colour, patterning and size. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphocephala_coccinea

My first guess
Yeah, my first guess was Graphocephala coccinea too but I thought it had more blue than red colouring? I'm thinking it could be a juvenile. Or maybe there are colour differences b/w the sexes?
