unknown tiny fly - Mythicomyia - male

unknown tiny fly - Mythicomyia - Male
Aromas, San Benito County, California, USA
August 7, 2008
Size: ~2-3mm.
Seen on in our garden on Argyranthemum frutescens. (live oak/chaparral habitat).

Mythicomyiid
The wing venation is a bit hard for me to make out due to the folded wings, but if I'm interpreting it correctly this is a mythicomyiid (formerly considered part of the Bombyliidae, but now often treated as a separate family). This is the first member of the family on Bugguide.

Thank you Joel
for the family ID. I'll keep an eye open for more of these, maybe I can get a better shot of the wing venation.

Mythicomyia, male (CA)
Wing venation looks like Mythicomyia but I am unfamiliar with the genera described recently by Evenhuis. Note also holoptic eyes of male.

Thank you Dr. Buck
for the genus ID.
