Which Tetraopes - Tylosis maculatus

Which Tetraopes - Tylosis maculatus
Española, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, USA
August 9, 2008
I hope this is a red milkweed beetle, but which one? It was on a globemallow (Sphaeralcea), but there's milkweed around.

that size: IMPOSSIBLE
please correct, or I'll be afraid to go out there (-:

You're right.
Have no fear. The size was indeed wrong (and I saw one of these beetles the other day).

However, at this point I don't think I can reconstruct the size, so I'm leaving it blank. All I could do is look up the typical size of these beasts and add it, which I'll do if anyone thinks it's a good idea.

Not Tetraopes
Tylosis maculatus LeConte (Cerambycinae: Trachyderini)

Thank you!
So I didn't even have the right subfamily. This insect-ID business keeps seeming harder.

Great find.
This is way more exciting than a milkweed longhorn:-) Disclaimer: Opinions expressed here are strictly my own and are not a reflection of Bugguide as a whole:-)
