Phengodidae - Phengodes

Phengodidae - Phengodes
Rome, Floyd County, Georgia, USA
August 10, 2008
Size: About 2 inches long.
Found this crawling around at the edge of some woods at night. The specimen was around 2 inches in length. Even though all six (at least I think it had six) of its legs were located at the very front of its body, it was surprisingly quick and almost snake-like in movement. I've never seen anything quite like it before. I think it may be some sort of beetle larvae, but that is just a guess. Anyone know for sure what this might be?
