Size: each was maybe 3 or 4 mm
Some sort of recent hatchlings found on the trunk of a large unknown tree. Lots of ashes, birches, pines, etc. around.

Wonder what the orange things were... It's strange, I don't see those with any of the other barklice. Thanks for the good place to start though!

Any chance the orange blobs could be eggs laid on the larvae? Parasites or parasitoids?

Maybe
mites might be another choice. I think that Dryinids don't use barklice, so they would be out.
