Melanoplus sanguinipes
A male, and a good shot showing the side of the abdomen - very helpful for identification.

Melanoplus
Definitely one of the spur-throated grasshoppers of the genus Melanoplus. You'll have to wait for one of the experts to weigh in for species identification. Very nice picture, though.
