We stared at a Google Map
and came to the conclusion (yet to be formally confirmed) that Clingman's Dome is on the state line and the parking lot and the trails we were on are actually in North Carolina. Wait for further word!

This is an adult cicadellid leafhopper (row of spines on outer edge of hind tibia). You can place it in Cicadellidae, or hold out for Andy Hamilton:-)
