Size: About 1"
The colors in the picture are accurate. Its yellow markings are much lighter than the typical Yellowjacket. Also its about 25%-50% larger than the typical Yellowjacket.

Yes, actually.
This is a worker bald-faced "hornet," Dolichovespula maculata. True hornets, genus Vespa, are much larger still, and do not occur in the Pacific Northwest. Nice images.
