BEAR??!!

BEAR??!!
Smoky Mountains, Sevier County, Tennessee, USA
August 9, 2008

Looks like it.
I still want to know why the "Beware of Bears!" sign at the U of Tennessee research station was on the 'outside' of the front door. I fully expected to have an ursine answer when I knocked:-) LOL!

Bear Attack
I'm glad you didn't get your "ursine answer", Eric! It is extremely rare for a bear to attack anyone in the Smokies, but the day after the Bugguide Gathering was over (Aug. 11), an 8 year-old boy was attacked on the Rainbow Falls trail. He survived because his father and brother scared the bear off with rocks and sticks.
