red moth? - Anisota

red moth? - Anisota
Daphne/Belforest area, Baldwin County, Alabama, USA
August 4, 2008
Size: 11/2 - 2 in
I think this is a red moth. Whatever it is I thought it was pretty and got another picture where you can see it's cute little face. It hung out near my porch light for a couple days. On day two another one that was the same only darker came and I think the were having relations. Then the second one left and the next day the first one was gone too. Unfortunately I only photographed the first one. This picture was taken on day two. the first day I saw it I should have photographed it, because it's head didn't have a bald spot then.
I have to say that I just found this site and am now an addict.

It's in the genus Anisota
guide page here. I'm not sure which species, but someone else may be able to tell you.

Please crop your images as close to the insect as possible. It helps if details are as big as possible - only editors and the original contributor can see your images full-size. I've cropped this one for you.
