Pennsylvania Yellow-jacket (Vespula pensylvanica)? - Dolichovespula arenaria - Male

Oops! Dolichovespula arenaria (male)
"Aerial Yellowjacket" is the common name for D. arenaria, not for D. norvegicoides whose name is "Northern Aerial Yellowjacket".
This latter is quite unlikely to occur in SF county. In CA, I'd look for it in the mountains of the North, like Mt Shasta region.
This misunderstanding perfectly illustrates the usefulness of always adding the scientifical ("latin") names.

...
This one is an Aerial Yellowjacket male.

Thanks . . .
Thanks so much for your ID help! It is much appreciated! Best wishes, Scott
