German yellowjacket worker masticating prey - Vespula germanica - Female
Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin, USA
August 9, 2007
This German yellowjacket worker landed on my video camera strap to chew up an insect it had captured, before taking it back to the nest. I had the video camera standing on a tripod to shoot trains while out railfanning. I've had this happen other times (and once where the wasp landed right on my hand) but this is the only decent shot I've been able to capture.

woah!
what luck lol. not a sign of this species at all where i live since the spring. i guess this is good news but i wanted a nest for my collection

that is a nice shot, by the way! :)
