there must be some pics i guess, it's not that uncommon a beetle

 
I had no idea where to look...
There were a dozen of so images up before mine but I had never seen a pronotum like this. Aside from knowing it was a beetle, I had no idea where to go from there :)

 
i see... well, endomychids usually do have these...
...sublateral pronotal grooves/folds/nothches that may run all the way or just be limited to a basal 1/4 or so. Most are glabrous and shiny, often handsomely colored mycetophiles, but there are some hairy guys and weird-looking myrmecophiles, too
