 Keyhole wasps - - Trypoxylon - female

Keyhole wasps - - Trypoxylon - Female
Veneta, Lane County, Oregon, USA
August 12, 2008
Size: 1/2"
Morning after he was sleeping on my patio table. With about 6 Cross spiderling also on the table. It took about 3 day for this to end with the 2 holes being mudded over.

Spiderlings collected by this wasp.

Moved
Moved from Trypoxylon.

Trypoxylon
Same genus as the pipe organ mud dauber but not the same species. Most of our Trypoxylon nest in small cavities like this one. They use mud only for nest partitions and closures.

Nice find, great images.
Very nice series of images. While the wasps in this genus are solitary, they sometimes work in male-female pairs, the male guarding the nest against parasites while the female finds prey and gathers mud.

Eric, Thanks for the info. How do I place my images in the right place in BugGuide?

Thank you Matthias Buck for the quick ID on my wasps. I checked it out under Trypoxylon and came up with:
