Crane Flies - Limonia communis - male - female

Crane Flies - Limonia communis - Male Female
Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA
August 16, 2008
I believe these are a type of Crane Fly. Any ID? Thanks

Wow -
nice photo of mating crane flies! I can't help with the ID, but will edit your photos to show male/female so that we can find this image again in the future... Dr. Chen Young sometimes helps us out with these flies.

The beak-like mouthparts
on these lead me to believe that they are actually mosquitoes.

Mating pair crane fly
of Limonia communis . One of the few crane flies that have elongated mouthparts that look like mosquitoes. Some other species with elongated mouthparts are Elephantomyia and toxorhina . - Chen
