Explanation of Names
Cucochodaeus (cuc-, shortened from cucullus Latin = hood + Ochodaeus). The generic
name denotes the hoodlike pronotum that reaches the eyes and also projects more
strongly above the head than in other Nearctic genera.

North America: 1 species.
Identification
Nine segmented antennae. Frontal tubercle or horn on head. Mandibles angulate on outside edge (not evenly rounded).
Range
North America: USA (AZ, CA, CO, NE, NM, UT, SD, TX); northern Mexico.
Habitat
Sandy areas. Nocturnal, attracted to light.
