Heliomata cycladata

Heliomata cycladata
uphill from Cherry Log, Gilmer County, Georgia, USA
May 24, 2008
My wife arranged for her family to gather with us for a vacation at some cabins in the southern Appalachians, the first one in northern Georgia. Some really impressive moths gathered around this place at night if we left a light on. Most were easy enough to ID - Luna, Polyphemus, Rosy Maple, Azalea Sphinx, Hebrew, Arched Hooktip, Tent Caterpillar - but this one has me completely stumped. Am having trouble even picking a superfamily...

Moved
Moved from Moths. Thanks JD! Hard to believe I overlooked that before, definitely what it is....

Heliomata
Heliomata cycladata; species has a bit of individual variation.
