Kitchen Sink Spider - Steatoda grossa

Kitchen Sink Spider - Steatoda grossa
Bay City, Tillamook County, Oregon, USA
August 23, 2008
Size: About 1 inch
Two things I noticed: 1) She seems to be missing a leg, and one seems abnormally long, and 2) she has a very interesting black dot in the middle of her cephalothorax. Her abdomen markings are quite beautiful. I caught this one desperately trying to escape my kitchen sink. Should I be worried?

It is a grossa I think. Compare with

It's a grossa
Excellent!

This is exactly what this little guy is. They are nearly identical. Poor little guy in my sink was missing a front leg though. Through Wiki I found that the grossa eats the only spiders here on the NW coast that I fear - the black widow and the hobo. So glad I released him outside instead of killing him.

Thanks so much for such a quick ID!

He's not grossa.
He's really quite nice. :)

LOL!
I quite agree. So funny since the first time I glanced at the previous post, I really did think it said gross.

Ha ha!
Good one.
