Argiope argentata

Argiope argentata
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, San Diego County, California, USA
August 23, 2008
Size: body was about 3/4"
Went for a hike today and saw quite a few of this type of spider. I'm still new to spider identification, but I think it's A. argentata. They really seem to like to hang out on prickly pears.
