Nicrophorus tomentosus

Nicrophorus tomentosus
Cornwall/Black Rock Forest, Orange County, New York, USA
August 23, 2008
Size: 12mm +/-
Found by a dead turtle.
Is this N. tomentosus? Very chunky/blocky compared to the other species.

Yeah, Nicrophorus tomentosus
The gold pubescence on the pronotum clinches it.

The thing that intrigues me is
how a dead turtle can find a beetle.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Thanks for the confirmation. To be more specific, I found the beetle NEAR a dead turtle.
