Northern Broken Dash?
I don't have my books but that's what it looks most like to me. Female.

Perhaps Leonard's Skipper
I also consulted an expert in Wisconsin butterflies and he suggested Leonard's Skipper. What do you think?

Go with the expert.
I've learned a lot but wouldn't call myself an expert. A few WI experts have taught me a lot in the last two years, too. They're great people (wisconsinbutterflies.org).
Now having actually looked at the book and my own photos it looks a lot like a Peck's female. I've always IDed those from the bottom side photos, though, and I only have one top side photo of a female. But it's a possibility. I've never seen or photographed a Leonard's so I have no experience there.
So always go with the expert, but at least check out the Peck's female. Thanks for the update and education. For some reason I didn't get notified of your reply to my comment so I'm glad I looked again. Here's one that's posted on Peck's, too:

Peck's Skipper ID
Mo - It was Mike Reese that I had contacted and he had suggested Leonard's. But after further consideration, he also thinks this is probably a Peck's Skipper. Said it would be easier to ID if it could be seen from below.

He knows what he's talking about.
I've learned more from him than anyone. Especially on skippers! He's a great guy, has a lot of knowledge (he pointed me to this site) and he's very busy. I didn't get notice of this post again, but I do of some of the others... Anyway, it's fun to learn and try to figure these out. I didn't see a Peck's all year and usually see some, but I was out of commission for a few probably prime weeks. It was a very slow year around here for most bugs. Thanks for the fun.
