Metallic Green Bee, sp - Agapostemon - female

Metallic Green Bee, sp - Agapostemon - Female
Sunnyvale WPC ponds, south SF Bay, Santa Clara County, California, USA
July 16, 2006
Size: 10-12 mm
A green bee, presumably Halictidae sp,, with all green head, eyes, thorax and abdomen, working in a Bristly Ox-tongue (Picris echioides). The pollen load on the hind tibia is indicative of a female. Possible to make a genus call here? Species ID would no doubt require capture.

My original is 2800 X 2100 pixels, so I could provide more detail if it would help. Submitting it at 560 X 420 means throwing away literally 96% of the pixels.

Agapostemon
female

Halictini:Caenohalictina, not Augochlorini

Note re tight crop:
The tight crop is 993 X 1324 pixels; resampling it down to 420 X 560 for BugGuide still loses 82% of the original pixels, but it does reveal more detail. The Augochlora sp that I've been able to reference have abdomens that are either striped or not green.

Cropping
If you cropped the image more tightly (and you should) you would only throw away 40% or less pixels and would show considerably more detail.
Halictidae, Augochlorini (I think); I wish I could go further but I continue to fail at identifying these bees so wait for John Ascher.
Males do not collect pollen nor have the equipment for it.
