Formicidae - Ants - Pseudomyrmex

Formicidae - Ants - Pseudomyrmex

Moved from Ants.

Pseudomyrmex sp.
Great image. The big eyes and "stretch limo" body are diagnostic for this genus.

More specifically...
This is Pseudomyrmex gracilis. This species, in various parts of its range, has varying amounts of the reddish color, or even none, leading to its having several names assigned to it. For example, this color variant was once known as Ps. mexicanus -- but the latter is no longer considered a sepatate species. The Florida population is most likely an import, while the Texas population seems likely to be a natural range extension from Mexico.

Thanks and question
Thanks Eric :) So do these have a common name other than an ant?

Not that I know of.
Not that I know of. The overwhelming majority of insects have no common name.
