Ladybug
Thanks for the info. I'll put that in the web site as to what it is.

Astounding.
I approached a wonderful lady beetle expert, Dr. Natalia Vandenberg at the Smithsonian, to help go over our mystery lady beetles. Believe it or not, she says this is another Harmonia axyridis! I can't believe it, either:-)

I'm so confused...
I would have said this was Olla (Harmonia) v-nigrum.

Lady beetle
Hi Eric. Thanks for the update on this. What is astounding about this beetle though? is it rare or something?

Variability
Not rare but extremely common, in many areas now the most common ladybug, even though only introduced to this country very recently. What Eric is amazed about, I'm sure, is the variability of this species. We all knew they varied a lot by color, number of spots, et cetera, but your photo looks so different from the typical Harmonia axyridis it is just hard to believe it is one. Not that I question the expert—I'm glad to have her help!
