You have seen something that I have never seen before! And it is a new state record! The only other pictures of this insect were taken by a 13-year-old, so maybe you need young eyes to see them.

This insect looks a lot like S. perdix, but the color is darker and the head process is thicker.

This looks to be a planthopper in the family Dictyopharidae. Those in the genus Scolops look something like this.
