Common Yellow Jacket - Vespula maculifrons - female

Common Yellow Jacket - Vespula maculifrons - Female
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
August 28, 2008
Size: about 18 mm
Found this fellow feeding on the remains of a moth. Is my ID correct? We have a lot of them around here, especially this time of year. Found the nest about 50 yards from house. Something dug it up during the night and made them very aggressive. Any input would be appreciated.

Nest
I wanted to get some photos of the nest, but they were pretty mad. By the time they had settled down it was raining hard. The nest was completely dug up and when the rain ceased it had been totally destroyed. All that remains now is just a large hole full of mud.
