carpenter ant? - Camponotus noveboracensis
Brossard, Quebec, Canada

This was a fairly big ant (roughly 7mm) running up the trunk of a maple tree. Is it possible to identify it? Many thanks

Camponotus noveboracensis - major worker
This is indeed a Carpenter Ant. An immature C. herculeanus would have been another possibility, but abdomen is too shining. Sorry for having overlooked this nice pic until now.

Thanks
