Bristletail?

Bristletail?
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
August 5, 2008
When I first saw this at Red Butte Gardens I thought it was a silverfish but Bugguide led me in another direction. I think this is a bristletail.

(your ID is correct) These guys are awesome (and some of if not the oldest of all living true insects).
They mostly feed on dead plant matter and algae (mostly the 2nd one it would seem).

My story exactly -
I had the exact same incident happen with an almost identical insect a couple days ago. I'm pretty sure you're right. Good thing is that they are not as pest-like as the Silverfish.

Silverfish...
I guess Silverfish are a big problem in parts of the U.S. but they don't seem to be so bad in Utah. My friend told me that in Ohio they had to set out traps for them in their house. I've never heard of a Bristletail before but after reading about them, they're pretty cool.
