NOTE: Tibicen davisi does NOT have a black pronotal collar nor does it have strong white pruinosity on the dorsum.

Tibicen tibicen (Tibicen chloromera)

This looks to be a recently emerged individual (last few hours). As is typical with many Tibicen species, T. tibicen is often frosted with a dusting of wax. This waxy coating may be silverish to bronzish (as pictured).

Tibicen davisi may too have this dusting, but there are subtle nuances which differ.

Additionally, unlike male Tibicen davisi, which may have very weak pruinose spots or markings on the dorsum anterior of the abdomen, Tibicen davisi females are not known for pruinose spots or markings on the abdominal dorsum at all.

If you look closely at the anterior segments of this cicada, you will see a bright pruinose (white) strip. Typically females of Tibicen tibiceh have apair of well developed spots, however, a small percentage will be characterized by a broad pruinos band on the anterior dorsum of the abdomen.

I feel pretty confident that is the genus, so placing there in hopes Andy Hamilton will eventually ID it to species for you. We need to clean out "ID Request."

That's either a pretty small cicada or a very large finger! I'm betting on the first one, because the green mid-dorsal stripe and the very wide head (almost equal to half its body length) are all characteristic of your smallest Tibicen.
