Weevil - Curculio proboscideus - female

Weevil - Curculio proboscideus - Female
Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
August 30, 2008
Size: 8? mm (body)
I think I've seen a picture of this before but I can't find it here or in a book. Near a light at night.

Edit: Based on ID as Curculio, this must be a female because the snout is longer than the body.

The green thing belongs to subfamily Chironominae.

Moved

Curculio proboscideus F., i suppose
*

This a weevil...
The snout looks like it would be used for nuts and acorns so you could start searching there.

Sorry but I am on my Treo running from Gustav (New Orleans) so I can't be of more help...

Weevil, isn't it?
Has sort of a "dowsing" look to it.

LOL!
Looking for nuts, no doubt:-) This is in the genus Curculio, but beyond that I don't know.

Thanks
It had better hope the local squirrels don't find out who's been eating their nuts. Once a squirrel interrupted a photoshoot by stepping on the moth I was photographing. The moth had made the mistake of lingering in the squirrel feeding area. (It was a wingless female.)
