Ant carrying away a hapless beetle

Ant carrying away a hapless beetle
Palm Point, Newnan's Lake, Alachua County, Florida, USA
June 5, 2005
I watched the ant drag this beetle by its hind leg. The beetle struggled, but the ant was winning. After the photo, I sided with the beetle and dislodged the ant. Any ideas on the beetle?

Moved
Moved from Darkling Beetles.

Tenebrionid or darkling beetle
At least that's what it looks like to me. Many tenebrionids have defensive chemicals. Either this species doesn't or they were not effective against the ant.

nice pic, but not for ID purposes
frass?

I'd like to keep it.
I don't think we need to be exclusively about ID. This image shows some interesting insect behavior.
