Leafhopper of some kind? - Microcentrum retinerve - female

Leafhopper of some kind? - Microcentrum retinerve - Female
Lake County, Illinois, USA
August 31, 2008
Size: Approx 2 3/4"
Side view of same individual. Is that a mite on him? I was thinking of trying to pick him up by the "tail" end while he was waiting for, I think, the sun to warm him up so I could extract the mite with tweezers. I wasn't sure, though, if that was the right thing to do. What do you think? If this a leafhopper of some sort? Thanks ahead of time!
