Acrocerid - Acrocera bimaculata - Female
Tellock's Hill Woods SNA, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, USA

Size: 5.5mm
Netted while it was hovering near a large broken off hardwood tree near edge of beech-maple forest. 12:40PM. When I saw it flying, I thought it was a scarab of some sort.

Acrocera bimaculata (female).
Acrocera bimaculata (female). Great pictures! One of the key characters for this species is the rudimentary spur of the second longitudinal vein (clearly visible in this picture). Another character is the overall dark color with just the few reduced lateral spots on the abdomen.
