Dragonfly - Aeshna umbrosa - female

Dragonfly - Aeshna umbrosa - Female
Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA
August 23, 2008
Size: 45 mm (approx.)
It looks like a Darner. The wing veins (closeup to follow) look similar to Aeshna. I can't find a match in my Massachusetts field guide. (Most of the species should be the same in Connecticut.)

It was on a boardwalk through a very small marsh and pond.

should be Shadow
Overall brown and what I see of the thoracic stripes looks good for Shadow. If so, definitely a female.

A quick scan of the odonatacentral list for CT only shows 3 species total that aren't covered in the MA guide (Great Spreadwing, Double-striped Bluet, and Tiger Spiketail, all quite distinct).

Abdomen
I considered Shadow but thought I would see more spots on the abdomen from this angle.
