Syrphid, yes.
I think it may be something in Eupeodes. Not 100%sure. Looks like a male.

 
Tribe Syrphini is where these usually go
Either Eupeodes or Syrphus and pretty much impossible to tell which from photos.

 
Guess I'm improving with age.
It's Syrphus. (Abdomen isn't margined.) And yes, it's a male.
